"She believed she could, so she did" -Carrie Green.
What a great inspirational quote for women who cannot move past their doubts and, for once, honestly think that they can. Believing that you can achieve the possible seems impossible, considering the season of life you may be in. These past few years or so have caused many of us to rethink our careers and goals. Some have decided to start a side hustle, side business, or ditch their day job and begin living life on their terms.
So, what season do you find yourself in today?
I have gone through a few things myself these last few years. For starters, due to school closures, I left my job of eight years and became a stay-at-home mom. I then found myself without work and not much saving to fall back on. So, it behooved me, to research work-from-home jobs, side hustle, and side businesses.
I began to think to myself, how can I combine both my skills in cosmetology and my knowledge of medical billing and start a small business?
Trust me, if you have gone through similar trials, know that you are not alone and I get the struggle—being a mom, trying to pay your bills, and simply trying to find your peace through it all. Thank goodness for the internet!
Early mornings, late nights, and on the weekends, I searched for ways to start a business from home.

I began to search topics such as:
- What is a Cranial Prothesis Specialist?
- How to Become a Cranial Prothesis Specialist?
- Do you need to be a licensed Cosmetologist to become a Cranial Prothesis Specialist?
- As a Cranial Prosthesis Specialist do apply the Medical Grade Wig?
After searching the internet, YouTube, and social media for what seems like months; I came across a company by the name of Wig Medical?!
Wig Medical is a company that assists students with becoming Certified Cranial Prothesis Specialists. A Cranial Prothesis Specialist is a specialist who specialized in medical-grade wigs and provides medical grade wigs to patients who deal with hair loss due to a medical related condition.
I thought to myself, how amazing is this company Wig Medical? I could actually become a Cranial Prothesis Specialist and assist hair loss patients with obtaining a medical grade wig in addition to assisting them with filing the claim to the insurance company for possible reimbursement.
I could finally, use my skills in cosmetology and my knowledge of medical billing and service the hair loss community. How exciting! However, I had so many questions:
- How to Become a Cranial Prothesis Specialist?
- Do you need to be a licensed Cosmetologist to become a Cranial Prothesis Specialist?
- As a Cranial Prosthesis Specialist do you install the Medical Grade Wig?
So, how do you Become a Cranial Prothesis Specialist?
Reviewing the credentials from Wig Medical you have to enroll in a course and obtain a certificate of completion. Wig Medical will teach you the following:
- What is a Medical Grade Wig?
- Does Insurance Cover Medical Grade Wigs?
- How to Submit Claims to the Insurance Companies?
- What are the basics of Medical Billing and Coding for Cranial Prothesis Specialists?
- How to submit an appeal to Insurance Companies?
- How to work with Hair Vendors?
In addition to becoming a Cranial Prothesis Specialist; Wig Medical provides additional courses such as but are not limited to:
- Rise to the Top of SEO
- Cranial Prosthesis Connections
- DermAtlas Directory
- Restoring Identity Video Series
- Medicare and Medicaid Mastery
How could you not enroll in Wig Medical?! If you are not ready to commit, you are welcome to enroll in their pre-course- Start a Medical Wig Business, and the best part is the pre-course is free!
Okay, so maybe you are thinking; this sounds like a great step for me, and I am interested in becoming a Cranial Prothesis Specialist. However, I am not a licensed Cosmetologist.
That is okay! You do not have to become a licensed Cosmetologist to become a Cranial Prothesis Specialist. How is that so? As a Cranial Prothesis Specialist, you supply the Cranial Prothesis or Medical Grade Wig, you do not apply or provide the service for the Medical Grade Wig install.
Please note: if you apply the medical grade wig or provide wig install services you have to become a license Cosmetologist. Please check with your State Board of Cosmetology for clarification regarding obtaining a license in your state.
Again, I’ll ask the question what season of life are you in today? If you are not ready to start a business and have decided that right now is just not the right time, that is simply okay.
